Agenda Item: VII.E.

Consider/Approve Furniture Bid for Obion County Central and
South Fulton High Schools Career Technology Additions

Background Information:

In addition to advertising, we solicited bids from J. C. Educational, Howard D. Happy, Adams Academic Interiors, and School Specialty for the purchase of classroom furniture for the Obion County Central and South Fulton High Schools career technology additions. There were thirty-one (31) separate items which made up the entire bid package. The attached summarizes the individual bids we received from J. C. Educational, School Specialty, and Howard D. Happy. Adams Academic Interiors did not submit a bid.

The purchase of classroom furniture for the career technology additions was contemplated during the budget planning process for the current fiscal year and is included in the FY11 budget as approved by the Board in the building construction line item ($100,000). We will most likely still need some odds and end furniture items once we get moved into the new facilities; however, this should be the bulk of our furniture needs. The low bids total $86,119.22, with J. C. Educational submitting the low bid on nineteen (19) items totaling $62,654.94, and School Specialty submitting the low bid on twelve (12) items totaling $23,464.28. Howard D. Happy did not submit a low bid on any items in which it submitted a bid.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the low bids submitted by J. C. Educational in the amount of $62,654.94 and the low bids submitted by School Specialty in the amount of $23,464.28.
